Soils and Pasture
Blackwood lodge sits on the highly fertile Kooweerup flats that have some of the most fertile grazing country in the state; the soil types are heavily peat orientated, very high in the natural trace elements required for developing strong bones. As one long time local said “you don’t get two year olds that are grown here go shin sore” Paddock grasses include lucerne, clover, cocksfoot, phalaris, and rye for wet mares, weanlings and yearlings.
